"Works great" 2010-01-08
By David C. (Tampa, FL)
While I have only used this item for two weeks, it has worked perfectly so far for me. I don't even find it necessary to wet the back of the chest strap as the directions indicate, it works great for me as soon as I put it on. I average running 4 - 5 miles per day, about 5 day a week. I have read that the battery life isn't great, but the batteries it uses are about $4 for a pkg of two so even if they don't last that long it isn't a big deal.

It could've received five stars from me except......I ordered this Timex model to replace an old Polar that I gave away. Should've kept the Polar. I gave the Timex three stars because the heart monitor works, and that's all I cared about. We tried setting the watch functions (four different smart people) and it refuses to be set. I don't give a hoot about the watch function, but it should work anyway. One star gone. There's also an annoying high-pitched beat from the monitor. (Hey, it matches my heart beat.) I can only hear it when I'm not moving around of course, but my old Polar never made a sound. This is somewhat subjective, but I take away another star anyway. The catch on the strap is not the most convenient, but I'll let that one slide. The unit only cost $33.00; the least expensive Polar I found was about $60.00. Best thing about the whole deal is Amazon Super Saver shipping---free, and it arrived in five days. If you want a no-frills basic heart rate monitor, this is an adequate product. If you want some real quality and want to swim with your monitor as well, go for a Polar product.

"Performs exactly as advertised." 2009-12-17
By W. Buckner (Virginia)
I was in the market for a heart rate monitor with chest strap that simply provided heart rate. I didn't need any other function than that. After searching local stores (big name and small) all I could find were wrist monitors (no chest straps) and all had far more functionality than what I needed, for more money than what I wanted to spend.

I researched these and the Timex was highly rated as just a simple heart rate monitor.

I have had the item for over a month now and it performs exactly as advertised and does everything I need it to do. Bonus for me is that the monitor's readings are picked up by the treadmills I run on so I don't always have to glance at the watch to see my heart rate.

For the money, if you are simply looking for a reliable heart rate monitor without all the gizmos, this one is for you.

"Chest strap" 2009-12-08

You are required to wear a strap around your torso. I didn't realize that until I tried to use the item. Works great.

"Inexpensive and easy to use" 2009-11-30
By Shirley F. Graves (Mentor, OH USA)
Great tool to help me reach my target heart rate and maximize my cardio workouts. I recently started back on a workout routine and needed an inexpensive and easy to use heart rate monitor watch that would allow me to monitor my heart rate, handsfree, during my cardio work out at the gym. This watch has the basic funtionality that I need plus work out equipment at the gym picks up the signal and displays on the screen so I don't have to keep looking at my wrist.
